LONDON - US President Donald Trump’s Middle East peace team met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II on Monday in Washington.
The 45-minute meeting took place at the Jordanian ambassador’s residence and briefly touched on the administration’s upcoming effort to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the officials said. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, US special representative for international negotiations Jason Greenblatt and the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, all attended the meeting.
Kushner and Greenblatt have led a two-year review of US policy toward the conflict and what direction the administration should take going forward as it seeks to broker a comprehensive settlement. They plan on releasing a detailed list of proposals some time in the spring or summer.
Palestinian Authority officials have not communicated directly with the Trump administration in over a year, dismissive of its approach ever since the president recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital last year and moved the US embassy there.
Abdullah also met with Pompeo independently to discuss a wider range of issues in the bilateral relationship, as well as US Vice President Mike Pence at the White House.
